  • Main egg gallery runs across the grain and scores wood deeply
    • Larval mines run parallel to wood grain

Dryocetes confusus - Western Balsam Bark Beetle

Douglas-fir

  • Douglas-fir beetle (Dendroctonus pseudotsugae)
    • Serious pest of Douglas-fir in BC.
    • large egg gallery

Two-lined Ambrosia Beetle Trypodendron lineatum

  • Long nupital gallery with alternating egg galleries
  • Stains wood
